Helen Bowker, has recently been appointed as the new National Open Water Delivery Manager for the SH₂OUT project.
RLSS UK, in partnership with British Triathlon, have recently appointed Helen Bowker as the new National Open Water Delivery Manager for SH₂OUT. Many RLSS UK members and volunteers in the South will know Helen from her role as a CDPC (Community Drowning Prevention Coordinator). In her new role, Helen will split her time between British Triathlon and RLSS UK to continue to deliver SH₂OUT.
Adrian Lole, Technical Director at the Royal Life Saving Society UK, said: “The growth of open water swimming has created an enormous demand for quality assured facilities. We’re delighted to welcome Helen to the team. Her new role is critical to the development of safer sites and therefore safer participation in the sport”.
SH₂OUT currently has a number of venues working through the accreditation process to work to develop their safety cover and offer to open water swimmers.
RLSS UK have also recently launched the updated 3 day Open Water Lifeguard qualification which enables candidates with no previous lifeguard experience to become qualified. It is hoped that the new qualification will assist open water swimming venues to recruit, train and retain more suitable, qualified staff and therefore make swimming more accessible.
Jenny Vincent, who previously held the role is now working on British Triathlons Go Tri project but will continue to sit on the Project Management Board for SH₂OUT.
