SH2OUT aims to be the one stop shop for all advice and guidance on organised open water swimming.
SH2OUT aims to be the one stop shop for all advice and guidance on organised open water swimming. To begin with SH2OUT has developed the following two documents:
SH2OUT Safer Venues – Organised Open Water Swimming guidance - This guidance document aims to provide advice for new venues, thinking about developing a venue for open water swimming delivery and for existing venues offering open water swimming activity.
SH2OUT Water Quality guidance – This document looks to provide information on one of the most complex areas of open water swimming that venues and swimmers have questions on.
Over time SH2OUT will develop further resources to support the open water swimming community. In the first instance the following documents are planned to be developed and available by Autumn 2017:
Water Safety Guidance – This document will provide a list of qualifications for those providing water safety cover for organised open water swimming sessions. These qualifications will be “Recognised by SH2OUT” and there will be information about type of water safety vessel that is best suited to each qualification.
Risk Assessment Guidance – this document will provide a step by step approach to support the development of an open water swimming venue risk assessment. This will also include a SH2OUT Risk Assessment template that can be used by any venue.
Normal Operating Procedure Guidance (NOP) – this document will highlight the key element so that should be including in an NOP. This will also include a SH2OUT NOP template that can be used by any venue.
Emergency Action Plan Guidance (EAP) – this document will highlight the key elements that should be including in an EAP and this will include a list of incidents that should be covered. This will also include a SH2OUT EAP template that can be used by any venue.
SH2OUT Swimmer Guidance – this document will provide information on what an open water swimmer should expect from an open water swimming venue. It will also include key information for those starting out in open water swimming, so that the swimmer can feel confident and supported.
